Makeup Trends for Spring Weddings

Following on from our Spring Wedding Flowers post last week, we thought we’d take a look at some of the hottest beauty trends influencing brides this spring.

Here, our savvy Wedding Planners have gathered together some of their favourite trends and products in spring wedding makeup to help you choose the perfect look for your big day.

Natural focus

You’ll be looking at your wedding photos for many years to come, so the key is to try and achieve a timeless look with your makeup that won’t date. We suggest avoiding the use of lots of colour and instead focus on natural tones and shades. By all means add an accent colour to your lips or cheeks, but work on the ‘less is more’ principle.

A good glow

To capture the spirit of spring, reach for highlighting products that will give you a natural looking glow, meaning you look healthy and sun-kissed. There are a wealth of fabulous highlighting products to choose between, but we’re a massive fan of NARS Hot Sand Illuminator.

Seasonal colour

A makeup colour that appeared multiple times on the bridal catwalks was orange, which may seem like a bold choice, but we loved the look of a strong orange lip, paired with more natural eye and cheek tones so that it didn’t overwhelm. If orange is a step too far, look to the more subtle shades of coral and peach. Feeling bold? Then try MAC’s Velvetease Lip Pencil in Lover’s Lane.

Floral inspiration

Take your cue from perfect dusky pink florals for your wedding makeup and you can’t go far wrong. Soft pink eye makeup is very much on trend in 2017 and can partner a soft pink lipstick without becoming overwhelming. Try MAC’s Velvetease Lip Pencil in Tease Me for a subtle, soft pink.

Loving lilac

Another popular spring colour is lilac which is seen as a slightly more sophisticated and less predictable alternative to pink. A gorgeous spring look can be achieved with a sweep of lilac shadow across the eyes. Our favourite at the moment is Bobbi Brown’s Sparkle Eye Shadow in Silver Lilac.

Lengthen the lashes

With a pale eye, it’s really important to accentuate your lashes with a good slick of mascara so make sure you remember to choose a lengthening, waterproof mascara for the big day. We think Maybelline do the best version and their New York Great Lash Waterproof mascara is hard to beat.

Tint don’t cake

If you’ve been diligently drinking lots of water and getting plenty of sleep, then you may want to ditch a full foundation and instead opt for a tinted moisturiser that will help you retain your dewy glow all day long. We like Benefit’s You Rebel Tinted Moisturiser that is ideal for fairer skin.

Up the ante at nightfall

Even if you’re not swapping dresses for your evening do, you can still update your makeup look to a more sexy, sultry style. Why not add smokey eyes to add an air of glamour to the evening’s proceedings? Check out the many tutorials on YouTube for step by step guidance on how to create a wow look yourself or maybe ask your bridesmaids to learn some smokey eye tricks that they can apply for you.
