Ready, get set…BAKE!

Posted on:

With the Great British Bake Off back on TV, we are currently obsessing over the latest series and getting our baking abilities up to scratch!

This Sunday, we were delighted to be the host of the best next thing – the Chelt’n’Jam Bake Off.

The baking event, which is raising funds for Oxjam charity, was sponsored by Kitchen Garden Foods and Vanilla Pod Bakery and showcased some amazing local talent!

Categories for entries included ‘cakes’, ‘cupcakes’, ‘tray bakes’, ‘scones’ and ‘iced cakes’. Each category was judged by an expert panel including Cotswold Chef, Rob Rees and former Harrods wedding cake designer Xavier Pelloux.

The afternoon kicked off at 2pm in our gardens with activities for the whole family! We had a bouncy castle, a magician, a juggler and face painting for the kids. We also had pots of tea and lots of baked goods in the grounds for everyone to enjoy.

Winners included: Grace West and Fenella Corran both aged 14 who stole the show with their chocolate brownies. Angie Petkovic for her courgette & lemon cake (gluten and dairy free), Professor Frank Leishman for his scones, Samantha Bailey for her chocolate brownies, Michael Duncan for his walnut whip cupcakes, Rebecca Browning for her iced novelty cakes, and India Taylor for the best children’s cupcakes.

We were delighted that over 100 people turned up and the charity managed to raise over £650! We hope to see everyone at the Manor again soon!

The perfect date…

Posted on:

Finding the perfect date on which to hold your wedding is no easy feat. With two diaries to combine as well as multiple relatives and friends to consider, it can be a daunting process. Weekends in July and August book up fast, and who wants to wait three years to say ‘I do’? When you have found that special someone, and the perfect venue, waiting is not an option. So what’s a bride to do? November has the answer.

Remember, RememberScreen Shot 2014-08-15 at 10.05.25

November has a lot going for it when it comes to hosting the perfect big day. With the summer long forgotten and the climb to Christmas in full swing, it’s perfectly placed to host your special day. For many of us it’s a long wait from summer to the traditional winter party season. So why not give your friends and family something to look forward to? Here at Manor by the Lake we simply love a November wedding.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Dreaming of a sumptuous honeymoon in the Bahamas? Or perhaps India for a bit of adventure? Then November is the month for you. The most exotic and beautiful honeymoon destinations have the best weather during our winter. Why not celebrate your wedding at home then jet off for a romantic long haul holiday? You will return loved up, tanned to perfection, and ready to take on the Christmas season.

Baby It’s Cold Outside

Our guests will freeze! Not so. Our wedding planners can help you plan the warmest winter wedding. Outdoor heaters will ensure your guests can still enjoy the beautiful grounds and why not provide sheepskin blankets for your friends and family to feel cosy as they wander the gardens and take it all in. Perhaps gloves and pashminas are in order? After all, keeping warm should not come at the expense of looking fabulous.

Dim The Lights

A good wedding photographer will not be put off by the season or it’s changing weather. Discuss the style of images you require, the time of day to capture those images, and try a test shoot to make sure you and your partner feel comfortable in your surroundings. Some of the most romantic wedding pictures have been taken during that magical hour as the light is beginning to fade.

November also offers you the opportunity to play with lighting. Imagine yourself walking down this candlelit aisle on a crisp November afternoon or standing in front of this romantic backdrop of fairy lights and tulle – perfect!

Snow? Snow Problem!

Don’t panic if the weather suddenly takes a turn for the worse either. This is where all your careful planning comes into play. Umbrellas, Wellington boots and even sledges can really turn what looks like a disaster into the best wedding party around. The key is to prepare for the blizzard and enjoy the snow.

November has such a beautiful colour palette. Purples and warm blushed pinks feel romantic and don’t be afraid to add a bit of sparkle. Talk to your florist about the traditional flowers that are in season but also consider using pine cones or dried fruit to add something different to your table settings and bouquets.
